The Minister of External Relations to visit Ukraine

The
Minister of External Relations, Antonio de Aguiar Patriota, will hold a
work meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Leonid
Kozhara in Kiev on July 3.
The
Foreign Ministers will examine the main issues on the bilateral agenda,
among which stands out the Brazil-Ukraine Strategic Partnership,
signed in 2009. The Partnership encompasses important projects in areas
such as health and space cooperation. The binational Alcântara Cyclone
Space has been developing the Cyclone-4 rocket to be launched by the
Alcântara Center, in Maranhão.
Ministers
Patriota and Kozhara will consider possibilities for deepening the
bilateral relationship in areas such as education and energy. In
addition,
they will discuss themes on the international political agenda, such
as the situation in the Balkans, the protection of civilians in
conflict, the peace process in the Middle East and the reform of global
governance bodies.
Bilateral
trade in 2012 exceeded the volume of US$ 1 billion, with a surplus of
US$ 235.6 million in favor of Brazil. Inflows of foreign Ukraine direct
investment in Brazil in 2012 totaled US$ 46 million. Since 2001, Brazil
and Ukraine have held regular Intergovernmental Committee for Economic
and Commercial Cooperation (CIC) meetings, a mechanism that makes
recommendations for the development of economic
relations.
