The Minister of External Relations to visit Slovakia
Bratislava,

The Minister of External Relations, Antonio de Aguiar Patriota, will visit Bratislava on June 30, 2013. This is the first bilateral visit of a Brazilian Foreign Minister to the country and the first visit of a high authority of Brazil to Slovakia since 2002.

At a work meeting, Minister Patriota and the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of Slovakia, Miroslav Lajčák, will examine initiatives to boost political consultations and the flows of trade and investment between both countries, as well as to step up partnerships in the areas of education, culture, energy and defense.

They will also discuss issues of the international peace and security agenda, such as the situation in the Balkans and the reform of global political governance. Slovakia supports the Brazilian bid for a permanent seat in a reformed Security Council.

Trade flow between Brazil and Slovakia reached US$ 171 million in 2012. Despite the contraction of 10.1% of the trade volume compared to 2011, Brazilian exports maintained their growth momentum observed since 2009 –surpassing US$ 32.5 million last year. The trade agenda focuses on manufactured goods.

Brazil established diplomatic relations with Slovakia immediately after its independence in 1993 – that same year the Embassy of Slovakia was established in Brasilia. Brazil has maintained an Embassy in Bratislava since 2008.
