The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan, Fumio Kishida, will visit Brasília on September 2nd, and will be hosted by the Minister of External
Relations, Luiz Alberto Figueiredo Machado.
The
Foreign Ministers will examine the main issues on the bilateral and
global agenda, with emphasis on issues related to the Brazilian
community in
Japan, trade and investment, as well as cooperation in science,
technology and innovation.
Brazil
and Japan jointly promote technical cooperation projects in third
countries, such as the Cooperation for Agricultural Development of the
Tropical
Savannah in Mozambique Program (Pro-Savannah) and the implementation of
the standard Japanese-Brazilian digital TV (ISDB-T) in African, Central
American and South American countries.
Brazil
and Japan established diplomatic relations in 1895. In 2012, bilateral
trade totaled US$ 15.7 billion, which placed Japan as Brazil's sixth
trading
partner in the world. That same year, Brazil received US$ 1.47 billion
in Japanese investment flows.
