The Minister of External Relations to visit Austria
Vienna,
The Minister of External Relations, Antonio de Aguiar Patriota, will visit Vienna on July 1st,
when he will attend the International Atomic Energy Agency's
Ministerial Conference on Nuclear Safety and meet with the Ministers of
Foreign Affairs of Austria, Michael Spindelegger, and Denmark, Villy
Søvndal.
At
the IAEA, the Foreign Minister will recall that only in a multilateral
forum is it possible to conciliate
the legitimate concerns of the international community about nuclear
proliferation with the equally legitimate right of all States to develop
nuclear technology for peaceful purposes. Minister Patriota will
reiterate that efforts to promote nuclear security
do not replace the need for effective progress in nuclear disarmament.
The Minister will also attend a luncheon hosted by the Director General
of the IAEA, Yukiya Amano.
In
bilateral meetings with his counterparts from Austria and Denmark, he
will examine initiatives in areas
such as education, energy, trade and investment. The Ministers will
exchange views on the negotiations for an Association Agreement between
Mercosur and the European Union as well as on themes on the
international peace and security agenda, such as the reform
of global institutions of political governance.
In Vienna, Minister Patriota will also meet with the newly appointed Director-General of the United Nations
Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), Li Yong.
In 2012, trade flows between Brazil and Austria reached US$ 1.75 billion, and the volume of trade between
Brazil and Denmark totaled US$ 1.16 billion.
