The Minister of External Relations, Antonio de Aguiar Patriota, will visit Zagreb on July 1-2, when he will be hosted by the President, Ivo Josipovic, and will meet with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign foreign Vesna Pusic, and the Minister of Economy, Ivan Vrdolijak.

The Foreign Minister's visit to Croatia coincides with the country's formal accession to the European Union scheduled for July 1st.

At the meetings in Zagreb, he will discuss relevant bilateral relations issues, such as the outlook for the growth of trade and investment, energy, tourism, and opportunities for educational and cultural cooperation. Themes on the regional and international agenda, such as the economic crisis in the euro zone, the situation in the Balkans, the peace process in the Middle East and the reform of global governance bodies will equally be assessed.

Bilateral trade reached US$ 283 million in 2012, representing an increase of almost 186% compared to 2006, when it amounted to US$ 99 million. Brazilian exports to Croatia totaled US$ 242 million in 2012.

Brazil and Croatia have maintained diplomatic relations since 1992, the year of Croatia's independence. Croatia established its Embassy in Brasilia in 1997, and Brazil has maintained an Embassy in Zagreb since 2006.
